Web Design and Marketing for one of the UK’s leading suppliers of cash registers

CCM Tills is a business to business reseller based in Bournemouth. When they approached us they currently had in place a bespoke build E commerce website. This was a functional site, however it was in need of modernisation, they required a site that had a responsive design and was easier to update from the admin panel.

edirect recommended a Magento development, which would not only allow for easier admin usability, but would be fully responsive, and have the potential to expand with the business.

Their initial marketing position was a difficult one as they had been penalised by a Google algorithmic penalty (penguin, for those in the know).

The SEO team were tasked to clear the site of this algorithmic penalty and allow the site to begin to flourish within the search engines once again.

01. Design

This being an E commerce store which is very specifically targeted at a business to business niche, it was clear from the outset that the main focus of this site would be to create a very functional and professional looking online store.

The key USP’s of CCM were their 24 hour customer service, in addition to their great value bulk deals. The store also required elements that provided the user to easily add additional accessories to their purchase, which in turn allows CCM to up sell their products.

Creating a responsive design for an E Commerce store always presents a number of challenges. This site was no exception. We ensured that the site was able to maintain a neat responsive design, regardless of how many additional products and categories the client were to add from the admin panel.

We ensured that all page templates fitted well within the responsive design, including the category and product pages. The structure of each page was created to avoid losing any site functionality on mobile.

SEO Service

This was one of edirect largest SEO challenges to date. Following the original Penguin update from Google, the CCM tills site had lost a huge amount of rankings and traffic from search engines. This was identified as being based on the site having a poor quality link profile. Our SEO team were tasked to reviewing all links for quality (approximately 3,500).

They then set about the task to get as many as possible removed from other sites, followed by submitting a disavow file for those links that could not be removed. Following this work in October 2014 Google ran a Penguin refresh and the rankings for CCM tills had a very dramatic increase. They now enjoy a strong volume of traffic and sales through their site.

05. Keyword Ranking

Whilst improving the sites overall position, the SEO team were also working on target approximately 50 specific keywords.

A huge number of these have now been achieved, the most significant of which is the No 4 position in Google for the term “tills” which is a very highly competitive term.
